NEW DELHI: The Telugu Desam member P. Upendra alleged in the Rajya Sabha that the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) had given Rs 3 crore to Bodo extremists in Assam to work against the elected State Government.
He said some RAW officers had written a letter to the Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi alleging that the money had been given for carrying out desalination attempts under the code name Operation Jhumjhum.
Updenra said the Home Minister Buta Singh had denied this allegation while making a statement on the agitation started by the All Bodo Students Union. However said Upendra he had come to know of the new facts about the RAW operations. He wanted either a government denial or confirmation of the allegation. While the Congress (1) members tried to obstruct Upendra, he was supported by Mr. LK. Ad vani (BJP) and other opposition members. = Mr. Advani said the allegation was very serious because it had come from inside the RAW. Najma Heptullah said the Home Minister had replied to the earlier allegations but if he so desired, he could reply again.
