CHANDIGARH: The three member Raviand Beas water Tribunal headed by Justice Iradi a judge of the Supreme court will be visiting some of water Reservoirs connected with the dispute for an on the spot study from May 17 to May 24 The Ministry of Water Resources is still in the process of appointing some of the staff for the Tribunal The Government has earmarked an expenditure of 30 lakh rupees for the functioning of the Tribunal for six months. The Tribunal has to perform two functions: one to verify the quantum of waters the three states Punjab » Haryana and Rajasthan were using on July 1st 1985 from the Ravi Beas System The water used for the consumption purposes will also be verified. The Tribunals visit to the spot of the water sources will primarily be for this purpose The Tribunal proposes to visit some of the spots connected with the distribution of water so that during the arguments from both sides Tribunal could recall from memory about the topography of the area and have an idea of the spot mentioned The Tribunal will visit Bhakra Dam Pong Dam Talwara Dam Madhopur Harike Ferozepur Head works and the Thein Dam. The Tribunal will also visit the site of S.Y.L. Canal The other job of the Tribunal is to adjudicate the claims of Punjab and Haryana regarding their shares in the remaining waters. The water dispute and the territorial dispute are the two main clauses of the Punjab Accord. Borth the issues have been taken up by the respective Tribunals. The territorial Tribunal has already started functioning from April 16.
