Rao said in the Lower House. To a question whether he had convinced Clinton on the issues of alleged human rights violations in the country and terrorism in the valley of the strife-tom Jammu and Kashmir Rao said “I can only say I have done my best.” Minister of state for external affairs R L_ Bhatia said prime minister discussed with Clinton the role of Pakistan in exporting terronsm to India and its interference in the country’s affairs. / He said Clinton felt that the issue should be discussed between the two countries within the purview of the Shimla accord_
Bhatia said the PM also raised the issue of U.S. giving F-16 fighter planes to Pakistan which would increase the arms race in the region and tensions between the two countries.
Rao emphasized India’s point of view for a global comprehensive and non-discriminatory nuclear NPT treaty he said.
