NEW DELHI (PTI): As army is deployed in full gear to help the people in India’s flood affected north, Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao will on July 16 undertake an aerial survey of the affected areas, where rains this year have killed more than 200 people.
Official sources said in Chandigarh on Thursday that Rao would also meet the chief ministers of the flood affected Punjab and Haryana states to get their assessment of the losses. Punjab chief minister Beant Singh has demanded an immediate grant of Rs one billion.
Meanwhile, the floods toll crossed 232 Thursday night, 60 villages in Haryana and Punjab was submerged in fresh floods as 34 more deaths were reported on Thursday.
A central damage assessment team will also visit the affected areas.as soon as the situation clears and makes damage assessment possible.
Relief and rescue operation in north western part of Punjab were further intensified with the water receding in many villages.
