NEW DELHI: One of the prominent Leaders of the breakaway group of Congress, K.K, Tewari, said on May 21 the Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, was heading a benami BJP government” and it should) therefore, be pulled down.
Tewari told reporters that he was not contradicting N.D. Tiwari or Arjun Singh on pulling down of the Narasimha Rao government, “I am only supplementing what these two leaders had said on the issue,” Tewari ‘said. N.D. Tewari and Arjun Singh had stated that they were not in favor of destabilization of the Congress government at the Center.
K.K. Tewari took pains to explain that he was not speaking as a spokesman of hig party, but was making this statement in his capacity as a member of the “erstwhile” AICC.
While conceding that there was difference of perception in the party on this issue, Tewari said the fall of Narasimha Rao government would not catapult BJP to power as stated by Instead, continuation of the present government would help BJP expand and intensify its activities since “the Prime Minister 1s helping it covertly and overtly.”
He said that his party office had been deluged with requests from Members of Parliament and Congressmen who were keen to join their group.
He said he had been contacted at least by one dozen ministers of the P.V, Narasimha government and some of whom are considered very close to him.
