CHANDIGARH: The Haryana state legislative assembly speaker, HS Chatha Monday night accepted the resignation of Ranjit Singh younger son of the deputy prime minister Devi Lal, from the assembly membership.

Ranjit Singh, who had been elected from Rori assembly constituency on the Janata Dal ticket, in his hand written resignation letter, dated June one, 1990, did not assign any reason for his quitting the assembly.

Sources close to Ranjit Singh confirmed Sunday that he sent in his resignation after having detailed discussions with his father Devi Lal.

They added that there was a possibility of his being made a member of the upper house of the parliament in view of the continued political rivalry between him and his elder brother and former state chief minister, Om Parkash Chautala.
