CHICAGO: The Sikh American Community of Chicago is celebrating the Vaisakhi festival, its ‘cultural heritage on April 24, at 5 p.m., at Lane Tech High auditorium, 2501 W, Addison Street in ‘Chicago. A traditional Punjabi cultural variety program tided “Rangla Punjab” will show case Bhangra, Gidha, Punjabi songs.

Music, poetry, skits and youth items from the land of five rivers, Punjab, where Vaisakhi is a major festival.

“Rangla Punjab” a major annual event in Chicago is organized by Sikh community affairs committee of Sikh religious of Chicago to preserve and promote Punjabi

Language, cultural heritage and to harness local Punjabi community talent.

Vaisakhi is special to the Sikh community because of this day in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh the 10th Sikh Guru baptized his followers into the order of “Khalsa” meaning the pure one and named them “Singh.”
