While the Pind Bachao Action Committee, led by its president, G.S. Dhillon, held a meeting at Masigarh village and decided to hold an all-party conference followed by a rally ‘on the issue within the next week. ‘They also intend to invite Beant Singh in his capacity as president of Punjab Pradesh Congress. Besides him, Prakash Singh Badal, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has been invited to address the rally. Dhillon disclosed that Jagmeet Singh Brar, president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress (Tiwari group) will also be among the speakers at the rally.
Meanwhile, the Ghar Bachao Committee, another body opposed to the “New Chandigarh” project held a protest march at village Naya Gaon. More than a thousand people participated in the march and shouted slogans criticizing the government for the notices under which the entire area comprising 15 villages North West of Chandigarh is being acquired to make way for a new urban estate.
