NEW DELHI: Rajmohan Gan dhi, the Janata Dal candidate against Rajiv Gandhi in Amethi has appealed to the election commissioner to withhold the result of the constituency.

In a letter to RVS Peri Sastry, Rajmohan said the evidence of the massive rigging in Amethi called for a complete redpoll and not just in 97 booths.

The Janata Dal candidate urged the CFC to order a comprehensive enquiry as was done earlier in Garhwal and Ferozepur, in order to have a correct assessment of the extent of intimidation and booth capturing that prevailed in Amethi.

He said the Supreme Court had held in a number of cases that the election commission had plenary powers under article 324 to order a complete redpoll.

He said a redpoll is called for to ensure a fair and free poll and to maintain the prestige and integrity of the electoral process in the eyes of the common man.
