AHMEDABAD: Rajmohan Gandhi, the grandson of the father of the nation, (India) Mohandas Gandhi, and a Janata Dal aspirant for Sabarkantha constituency in the western Indian state of Gujarat, has lost his deposit.
Gandhi had earlier made an unsuccessful attempt to enter parliament by contesting from the Amethi constituency against the late former premier Rajiv Gandhi in 1989.
Rajmohan Gandhi secured only 33,746 votes this time, with the Rightwing Bharatiya Janata Party wresting the seat from the Janata Dal.
The BJP candidate, Arvind Trivedi, who essayed the part of Ravan of the tele-serial “Ramayana” polled 1,68,704 votes defeating his nearest Congress (I) rival, Magenbhat Patel by over 36,000 votes.
