The Bhartia Janata Party has criticized the Government of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for harming the national unity and integrity, according to Voice of America.
‘A statement issued after the three day meeting of the party in occupied Jammu accused Mr. Gandhi of trying to harm government’s credibility instead of dealing with the challenge of what it called “secessionist forces” and facts of geopolitical situation in Indian occupied Kashmir.
The statement further said that during the rule of Prime Minister Rajiv prices of essential commodities had gone up, unemployment had increased and more imports had been permitted which harmed India’s industrial production. In this way, it said foreign loans were four billion dollars during the past two years.
The party leaders also accused the Gandhi Government of rendering the President, Parliament, Judiciary, Election Commission and Civil services powerless and of doing damage to the roots of these institutions, They said that the threats posed today to the unity, integrity, sovereignty and the prestige of the country had never been found after independence.
The party leaders also said that the most worth mentioning failure faced by the Government of Mr. Gandhi was in the Indian Punjab.
The party president, Mr. LK. Advani said that the Punjab accord between the government and the Akali Party was signed in utmost hurry. He said instead of improvement in the chaotic conditions ask Ack in Punjab violence had further increased there.
Referring to Mizoram accord, Mr. Advani said that it was a big blow to the unity. The accord, he added, had encouraged Gurkhaland National Liberation Front for waging movement for the establishment of a separate state in West Bengal and on the other; it has boosted the morale of the freedom fighters in East Punjab.
