CALCUTTA, (PTI): The West Bengal Chief Min ister, Jyoti Basu, said the Rajiv Gandhi government had been “fully exposed” in the recent revelations of the 1.4 billion dollar Bofors gundeal, and demanded its immediate resignation.
“This government is continuing in power shamelessly despite being exposed in the public eye in the shady gundeal,” Basu told reporters before leaving for Delhi to attend the Communist Party of India Marxist Central Committee meeting. He expressed the hope that the people would “remove the corrupt government.”
Recent revelations in the Madrasbased ‘Hindu’ newspaper and the ‘Statesman’ suggest that the government was aware of the payoffs in the Swedish gun deal but carried out a massive cover up during investigations into affair,
Basu said that CPI (M) central committee had been having discussions with the Janata Dal and the national front on seal adjustments for the coming Lok Sabha poll. “This issue will figure in the meeting,” he added.
Basu also expresses surprise at the laying of foundation of the Haldia Petrochemical complex on October 15 by Gandhi. What will he do there when the official sanction of the project is yet to be received?” Basu asked.
