New Delhi — An Indian Cabinet minister, who lives next door to Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, has been ordered to move so that security can be tightened for his neighbor, a newspaper reported Saturday.
The independent Indian Express said that information Minister V. N. Gadgil’s house on Race Course Road in southern Delhi will be used as a security headquarters to monitor the area.
Piles of rocks fortified by huge embankments have been set up around Gandhi’s residence, which occupies two houses. The road is sealed off and the neighborhood patrolled by police.
Gandhi recently moved to the new residence after living for years with his mother, Indira Gandhi.
