NEW DELHE: Noted journalist Rajinder Puri has resigned from the National Executive of the Janata Dal and its primary membership saying the party could never become an instrument of social or political change.
“I have little doubt that the Janata Dal will sweep the next polls thanks largely to Rajiv Gandhi himself. But I see no indication of the Janata Dal ever becoming an instrument of social or political change. Mr. Puri said in his resignation letter to the party President, V.P. Singh.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the “deep-rooted factionalism” and the “ad hoc manner” of the party’s functioning, Puri said. There is nothing I can do about it because there is no forum available within the party in which I may express my views and influence decisions.
This political culture in which sycophant thrives is too close for comfort to the Congress I culture. Mr. Puri said in the letter which came close on the heels of the resignation by two Janata Dal leaders from the party in UP.
