Rajinder Kaur Bhulara (43) is a new entrant in the political arena.
Her husband Dr. Rajinder Pal Singh Gill, who was a teacher at Punjab Agricultural University, was killed in an “encounter” with the police on Republic Day this year. Born at Raja Jang village in Lahore district, her parents migrated to Sarowan village in Faridkot district after partition. She did her graduation and B.Ed from Dev Samaj College, Ferozepore.
She has a daughter and a son. The daughter is studying law at Punjabi University, while the son is a student of Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana.
During the election campaign she became popular as “Bibi”. Among her rivals for the Ludhiana Parliamentary seat was Mr. Jagdey Singh Jassowal, a former MLA, who contested as the official nominee of the Akali Dal (Badal). She was the UAD (M) candidate.
In her campaign speeches she stressed the need for ending terrorism and maintaining communal amity.
She is the second woman to represent Punjab in the ninth Lok Sabha.
She is committed to serving the Sikh cause and raise issues pertaining to the Punjab problem both at her party meetings and in the Lok Sabha.
