A lawyer who represented Sikh youth in various courts during the current turmoil in Punjab, Rajdev Singh is somewhat new to politics. In his first election, he defeated an established Akali Dal (Badal) leader, Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, to wrest the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat.

A bachelor and a law graduate from Kurukshetra University, he is a Barnala based lawyer.

Mr. Rajdey Singh shot into prominence in 1984 following Operation Bluestar when he volunteered to take up the cases of Sikh youths being tried in various special and designated courts. He took up their cased in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the special courts in Jodhpur, Karnal, Ferozepore, Nabha and Sangrur.

Among those whom he defended was Mr. Harminder Singh Sandhu, General Secretary, AllIndia Sikh Students Federation, and Sant Harchand Singh Longowal.
