CHANDIGARH (PTI): Two militants a Sarpanch and an office assistant to a senior police officer were killed while militants again tried to disrupt the railway communication system by damaging telecommunication poles and uprooting Wires in northern Indian border state Punjab.
In Faridkot 12 telecommunication poles were uprooted alongside railway lines while telecommunication wires were pulled down in Bathinda.
Suspected militants had damaged about 50 telecommunication poles at four places.
The body of Gurbachan Singh an office assistant to the superintendent of police Patiala was fished out of the Nidampur canal in Sangrur district and cremated in Patiala. Gurbachan Singh was killed in the vicinity of the canal by militants three days ago.
Gunmen gunned down a sarpanch Chand Singh in village Dhindse in Sangrur district while an unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with the security forces near village Natt in Ludhiana district.
