NEW DELHI: The government of India will be brought down if it refuses to obey the Congress general secretary, EMS. Nambbodiripad said.
“The Congress (I) will not like Chandrashekhar to continue for long. They will topple the government as and when they consider the time ripe for elections,” Nambbodiripad said in an interview here.
“Chandrashekhar at one time, took correct positions…when he was with the Janata Dal and the Left in keeping the Rajiv Congress out. However, he has become a puppet of the Congress (I), the veteran ‘communist leader said,
The main characteristic of the current political situation is the emergence of three distinct major political forces the Congress (, the BJP, and a combination of the major non BJP opposition party and left parties, he said.
Nambbodiripad said he believed the preservation of national unity, measures to tackle socioeconomic problems and a consistent non signed foreign policy would be the major issues 10 be focused upon in case of a midterm poll.
He said the recent events that led to the fall of the V.P.Singh government were a vindication of the CPI (M)’s position that ‘communalism and authoritarianism had to be fought together.
“One cannot be fought without fighting the other,” Nambbodiripad said in an apparent reference to the Congress (I) and the BIP.
The Congress (I) is currently engaged in “hectic efforts to come back to power as a single party government,” while the BJP is seeking to come to power to “transform secular India into a Hindu Rashtra,” he said
Referring to the relationship between the left and the V.P.Singh led Janata Dal, Nambbodiripad said the two are “today cooperating.in fighting the Congress (I) manipulation of propping up Shekar as prime minister.”
“They are together also in fighting the ‘communalism of the B.J.P. Cooperation in this dual task for the present will take care of the future, he added.
Midterm poll will come only when other alternatives are tried and fall. It would not come just by our asking. There is, therefore, no point in launching an agitation for it is doing he said.
