PATIALA: Punjab’s excise and taxation commissioner AK Mishra along with his guard was killed on May 61992 at the hands of suspected Sikh militants who are dead set against the sale of alcoholic drinks by the state government.
Mishra was a senior I.A.S officer of commissioner’s rank and is the first officer of his cadre to be killed in the current Punjab turmoil. He is survived by his wife a son and a daughter. Mishras driver sustained serious injuries
According to D.G police Patiala range two armed militants came by a scooter near his car as soon as he was about to leave for his office from Phatak No 22 residence
The Punjab chief minister in a statement deplored the killing and aid that the aim of the Khalistan militants was to demoralize the states administration but they are in likely to achieve their aim.
