JALANDHAR: Punjab Youth Congress along with three state frontal organizations of the Congress on Sept. 3 launched a campaign against Punjab Chief Minister Harcharan Singh Brar demanding his removal by the party high command on charge of hatching a conspiracy to weaken AICC president P.V. Narasimha Rao. Addressing a joint press conference here, State heads of the Youth Congress, the National Students Union of India, the Sewa Dal and mahila wing called upon Mr. Rao to change the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader. They alleged that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Rajesh Pilot was invited by the Chief Minister to launch a tirade against Mr. Rao at the kisan rally, organized by independent MLA Ramesh Singh at Nabha recently. Besides Punjab Youth Congress president Bhupesh Sharma, others who addressed the conference were Mr. Harpal Singh of NSUI, Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma of Sewa Dal and Ms Satinder Kaur Nabha of the Mahila wing. Mr. Bhupesh Sharma tried to justify the Youth Conference somersault in demanding Mr. Brar’s removal so soon after Indian Youth Congress president Maninderjit Singh Bitta’s categorical statement here that Mr. Brar and PPCC president Virender Kataria were competent to run the affairs of the Government and the party in Punjab. Stating there was no resentment among the youth workers against Mr. Bitta’s frequently changing stand, he claimed that he had consulted the party workers in jointly forming the anti Brar front. But failed to answer as to when the meeting had been convened, All four frontal organizations chief appealed to Mr. Rao to expel Mr. Pilot from the party for levelling false and baseless allegations against him and for spearheading a campaign for changing the AICC president.
