CHANDIGARH: In a tragic commentary on India’s democracy, the Punjab police chief K.P.S.Gill has reportedly vetoed a move sponsored by chief minister Beant Singh to hold a judicial enquiry into the murders of Ropar advocate Kulwant Singh, his wife and 18monthold son by the police. Beant Singh reportedly told a deputation of advocates of Punjab and Haryana high court recently that he was all for a judicial enquiry but his police chief did not want it. The chief minister clearly indicated that the police chief was fully aware of the captivity of the advocate and his family. Some circles even suggest that the murders have taken place personally at the instance of K.P.S.Gill.
Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana high court as well as all the districts courts in Punjab and Haryana have been on strike for more than 10 days without any effort by the Indian authorities to concede the advocates demand for a judicial enquiry into the gruesome murders by the police.
