JALANDHAR: The Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, has said Punjab still needs the Terrorist and Disrupte Live Activities (prevention) Act be- cause many top militants are still hiding in other states as well as abroad and any laxity on the part of the government can prove to be disastrous.
The Chief Minister was talking to newspersons at the Guru Ravi Dass High School at Kishanpura here. He said the situation had improved drastically in the state, but still a lot needed to be done.
He said there was no doubt that the militants in Punjab were behind the kidnapping of the businessman, Rajinder Mirdha, in Jaipur.
On the remarks of the Director General of Police, K.P.S. Gill the militants based outside Punjab could at- tack the state any time, Beant Singh said the Director General of Police had spoken the right thing and added that due to the strict security steps in the state, these militants were afraid of coming to Punjab to operate.
