NEW DELHI: The Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar has said elections in Punjab and Assam could be held if peaceful situation prevails between now and the announcement of poll schedule.
Talking to newsmen on March 17 Shekhar hinted that a clear announcement regarding the elections in these two states might not be helpful as it depends on the situation there.
Chandra Shekhar admitted that his government had asked former Assam governor D D Thakur to resign. “If it is assumed that the government and the prime minister is one” then Thakurs statement in which he had said that his resignation was demanded by the prime minister was correct Chandra Shekhar said.
