CHANDIGARH India: 25% of additional excise levies were levied on country liquour and I.M.L.F. sold in the rural areas of Punjab is now to go to Panchayats for use in developmental work. A recommendation to this effect has been made by the State excise and taxation department to the Cabinet for approval.
It may be recalled that hundreds of Panchayats in Punjab have asked the government not to open liquor vends in their villages and the department’s move is evidently aimed at countering the panchayat’s objections.
