CHANDIGARH, India: The Punjab and Haryana Bar Association General Body have decided to intensify its agitation and gherao of the Punjab Governor, Union Home Minister and Parliament. Jasbir Singh, President of the Bar Association, said that the Union has been forced to take such a decision as the government was not in a mood to accept our demands for suspending Kiran Bedi, Superintendent of Police, and New Delhi. He said the prestige of legal profession was involved and it was not possible for the lawyers to take all this lying down. He said that the association has decided not to accept new cases and not to conduct the cases in any court in the region.
Meanwhile, 136 lawyers of Sonipat, Hissar and Gohana in Haryana courted arrest at Boat Club, New Delhi in support of the demands of Delhi lawyers in favor of suspending Mrs. Kiran Bedi. The lawyers were also demanding enquiry into the conduct of Mrs. Bedi by the commission appointed under the Enquiry Commission Act.
