CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has admitted that innocent people had been harassed by the law enforcing machinery. “Instances of such harassment have been brought to the government’s notice” an official release stated on January 5.

The state home secretary, S.L. Kapur said it had been felt necessary to provide effective, revamped and revitalized government machinery for prompt redressal of public grievances as the normal political process in the state stood suspended.

As a first measure a special campaign has been drawn up to redress public grievances on the spot by involving senior police and civil officials. These officials will make joint tours of sensitive towns and villages of the state.
