CHANDIGARH INDIA: Add ressing a news conference here, Mr. Krishan Kant, a former MP said that the incident in which Mr. KS. Gill, Director General of Police, Punjab, was alleged to have misbehaved with an LAS officer had forfeited Mr. Gill’s moral potential to lead the police force. “The only honorable course left open for him is to seek voluntary retirement and save Punjab from a longer period of debate and agony,” he added.
Mr. Gill allegedly misbehaved with a senior LA’S. Officer, Mrs. Rupan Deol Bajaj at the dinner party hosted by Mr, S.L. Kapur, Financial Commissioner (Home). The matter was reported to the Punjab Governor who advised Mr. Gill to apologies to the lady. Mrs. Deol Bajaj, however, refused to accept the apology and insisted on legal action against the Police Chief. She brought the matter to the notice of the Prime Minister and was summoned to Delhi by
Mrs. Sarla Grewal, special secretary to the Prime Minister. Meanwhile Punjab Governor, Mr. SS. Ray has advised Mr. Gill to ‘give up drinks and be ready to offer a public apology. Mr. Ray also said that Mr. Gill was prepared to apologise in the presence of senior officers but Mrs. Bajaj was unnecessarily complicating the issue. He disclosed that it was not for the state administration to suspend or transfer Mr. Gill. The matter rested with the center.
