CHANDIGARH: With the announcement of the poll schedule for Punjab a search for candidates has begun
The by-election will provide another opportunity to both the Congress and Akalis to prove their popularity. The BSP too is likely to pose a serious challenge. It already has eight members in the assembly.
According 10 the schedule received from the Election Commission the polling for by elections to the Nakodar and Ajnala constituencies will be held on May 26. A notification to this effect will be issued on April 26.
The Akalis who boycotted the assembly elections did badly in the panchayat and local bodies elections in which they participated. They also contested \the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election in which Umrao Singh of the Congress was elected.
The Nakodar seat fell vacant on Umrao Sings election to the Lok Sabha. Following the death of H.S. Ajnala Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha the Ajnala seat fell Vacant.
