AMRITSAR: The junior minister for implementation, Bhagey goverdhan planning and programme said here that the government would prefer to fence the entire 547 KM IndoPakistan border in Punjab and would install flood lights to prevent infiltration from across the border.
Talking to reporters at Rania, 45 KM from here, he said the government is considering compensation and rehabilitation problems of people whose land might be acquired for fencing.
About 200 KMS of the border have already been fenced another 236 KMS would be covered by March.
Goverdhan, along with junior union minister for rural development, Upendra Nath Verma, visited B.S.F. border post of Rania and addressed a gathering of village councilors’.
The two ministers,; who have been deputed by the prime minister,V.P. Singh to study the problems in the border areas, heard complaints of the people and assured them that their problems would be looked into. Goverdhan said stress would be laid on developmental programmes and providing jobs to the unemployed.
