MYSORE, The Guru Nanak University, the team champion for the last six years, retained the title in the All India Interuniversity weightlifting championship held in Mysore. The well-built team was a cut above the rest collecting 32 points. Among the four different categories for best physique, GNDU, scored first places. with the other going to Bangalore. Mysore, the hosts put up a poor show not even getting a place in any of the events, Nearly 55 universities took part and only 10 made the final rounds.
CHANDIGARH, India: The Punjab University, Chandigarh, the host, won the AllIndia Interuniversity Boxing Championship after a lapse of four fears. It scored 30 points, which Punjabi (Patiala) retained. The runner-up position with 16. Pune and Himachal were tied for third spot with 11 points each.
The defending champion Guru Nanak Dev., Amritsar, claimed the only silver. in the middleweight category through Jasbir Singh who lost to Punjabi’s Tej Pal Singh on points.
