CHANDIGARIH: The Punjab government is against the withdrawal of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act in the state. Chief Minister Beant Singh, last week told media persons though: he situation was normal, it did not warrant the withdrawal of TADA at this stage. He denied there was any misuse of this Act in the state after his government took over, Fe said only three or four persons were under detention in the state under TADA, About 400 to 500 militants in jails had been detained under different cases but not under TADA,
He would not agree that his government was not properly advised: by the bureaucrats, however, he owned up the responsibility saying “it is ultimately the responsibility of the chief minister.”
He defended (he nominations made to the medical and engineer in colleges in the suite only the deserving cases had been nominated. He said nominations were the prerogative of the chief minister.
