TOKYO: The Italian publisher of the Japanese edition has been intimidated by an Islamic association here and has been virtually condemned to die.

When Gianni Palma met Raees Siddiqui, the president of the Pakistan Association here, after he had formally released the book in Japanese, he was told because he had offended one billion Muslims of the world, “with your act of terrorism (publishing of the book) I challenge you. You won’t live. Are you ready to accept this?”

Local press reports quoted Palma as saying he was appealing to Islam’s sense of magnanimity.

The confrontation took place at the end of Palma press conference. Earlier at the same place a Pakistani youth made an unsuccessful assault on the publisher and got arrested.
