SAN FRANCISCO, CA: On Dec.11, 1993, Amnesty International organized a peaceful march in San Francisco in front of Consulate of Countries violating human rights. Approximately 200 people from 10 different countries participated in the march. Amnesty International filed petitions on behalf of “disappeared” people to consulates of Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Indonesia, Philippines, Columbia and India. The representatives of various nations addressed the gathering and explained how their government is violating human rights. Bhai Jasbir Singh addressed the rally on behalf of Sikh Youth of America. He appreciated the efforts of Amnesty Interactional in organizing the peaceful rally.
He said that the Indian Government is violating human rights through illegal detentions, death Squads, and torture chambers for Sikhs. He added that everyday girls are killed, raped, tortured or humiliated in Punjab. He appealed to the gathering that people should call upon their political leaders and U.S. lawmakers to freeze the financial aid to these countries. Claudia, Christian and Judy worked hard to make the march successful. A spokesperson from Amnesty International thanked the Sikh Youth of America for participating in the rally.
