AMRITSAR: After having failed to muster support of other organizations, the Akali Dal (Mann) has decided to go it alone to raise state wide protest against the state repression, Other Akali Dals, including Akali Dal (B), have turned down the proposal put forth by Mann at the organization’s last meeting held here, The proposed rallies were supposed to highlight incidents of brutal police repression. Sources disclosed that Mann proposed four incidents of such police atrocities, namely Dhulkot encounter in which Haryana police’ sentence ‘for Sukha-and Jinda, Bebla encounter and detention of Bhai Sukhjinder Singh Sanga and Subedar Channa Singh. The Akali Dal (Mann) has already made an abortive bid to hold two rallies, one at Behla and other at Tarn Taran,
The Damdami Taksal and the Sikh Students Federation also participated in the rallies. The SSF is also member of the panthic organizations.
However, the six panthic organizations have decided to hold a joint rally against the state repression on August 3 at Ludhiana.
Meanwhile, Parkash Singh Badal, president Shiromani Akali Dal, which addressing a meeting ‘of the party ‘workers “here, said that his party would recruit 1000 volunteers in every district to fight against excesses by the government machinery.
