LUCKNOW: The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh Dec.8 said if anybody was to be prosecuted for the Ayodhya developments “it was me and not the officials.”

Singh said officials “simply carried out my orders which clearly stated that they should do everything to protect the disputed structure but firing should not be done at any cost.”

Talking to newspersons the former chief minister said “even central forces could not do so after 36 hours of their taking charge since any firing could have caused serious repercussions.

Commenting on the incidents in Ayodhya Kalyan Singh said “it was the spontaneous outburst of Hindu statements pressed beyond the capacity by the irresponsible act attitude and utterances of the Center and the readers of Communist Party the Janata Dal and the other non-BJP parties.”

Singh said despite his party and governments warnings the Central leadership and other political parties refused to gauge the moods of kar sewaks leading to a situation which slipped out of control Moreover the presence of “uncalled” Central forces in and around the twin cities of Ayodhya and Faizabad also “infuriated” the kar sewaks who till the previous evening appeared quite calm and disciplined Singh remarked.

The former chief minister expressed his regrets and apology for the rude behavior of kar sewaks meted out to the journalists and photographers covering the Ayodhya event.
