NEW DELHI: The Vatican has appointed Archbishop George Zur, Titular Archbishop of Sesta, Italy, as Apostolic Pronuncio to India and Nepal, the Catholic bishop’s conference of India (CBCI) sources said here Tuesday.
Archbishop Zur replaces the earlier Papal representative to India, Archbishop Augustino Cacciaviallan, who left New Delhi for the Vatican last month.
Archbishop Zur, 60, a German national, had earlier served in India as secretary of the Apostolic internunciature from 1962 to 1966. He is expected to arrive in India by early October when he would present his credentials to the president.
