NEW DELHI: An angry opposition Tuesday stalled the proceedings in both houses of the Indian parliament accusing the government of leaking budget secrets to the World Bank and succumbing to IMF conditionality’s thereby surrendering, the economic sovereignty of the country.
Passions ran high in the two houses as the opposition especially the left front and national front make a determined bid to extract a form reply from the finance minister, Dr. Man Mohan Singh about the veracity of a newspaper report on issue.
This led to as many as three adjournments in the lok sabha owner house) and a spell of nousy scenes lasting over 40 minutes in the Rajya Sabha (upper house).
The finance minister described the opposition charges as “wild adding that he was not in a position to comment the report with barely four days left for the presentation of the general budget.
He said the budget proposals would be the “proof of what i am… want to be judged by the people of this country, by This failed wo satisfy the enraged opposition, who persistently demanded tabling of the letter which the minister admitted to have written to the president of the world bank.
