CHANDIGARH: The 57 month old presidents rule in Punjab was revoked Tuesday following the installation of the 26 member Congress I ministry headed by Beant Singh.

The proclamation of the president, R. Venkataraman, revoking the president’s rule was read out by Punjab chief secretary Tejinder Khanna before the swearing in of Beant Singh and his ministers.

The presidents rule was clamped on May 11,1987 following the dismissal of the Akali Dal minis try headed by Surjit Singh Barnala.
