NEW DELHI: Captain Satish Sharma, a Congress (I) MP and a Close associate of former premier Rajiv Gandhi, was Tuesday granted anticipatory bail till the conclusion of the trial in the case relating to a murderous attack on ruling Janata Dal leader Sanjay Singh during the general elections in November last year.
A division bench of the Delhi High Court ordered Sharma to be released in the event of his arrest after furnishing personal bond for Rs 10,000
Allowing Sharma’s writ petition which sought to restrain the Uttar Pradesh police from arresting him, the court noted: “There is apprehension in the mind of the petitioner (Sharma) that there is likelihood of him being humiliated in the eyes of people.
“In such circumstances and situation it would be appropriate and expedient in the interest of justice to grant him anticipatory bail till the conclusion of the trial,” the judges said.
