CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress (I) is in a fix on the Issue of certain statements issued by the local party MP from Faridkot, Jag meet Singh Brar and favors action against him.
According to sources in the party, the state unit has written to the party high command seeking action against him. The district presidents at a recent meeting had also sought action against him.
Earlier 35 party MLAs had issued written statement and went to the extent of saying that Brar was issuing such statements as he had the Akali past.
Brar embarrassed the party when he made his maiden speech in the Lok Sabha vociferously pleading the cause of the state and action against Congressmen involved in the November 1984
Riots. His recent statement is regarding higher procurement prices for wheat saying the present procurement price was not to the satisfaction of the farmers. He has demanded procurement price at the rate of 1Rs.350 per quintal. While the party leaders are feeling embarrassed, he is consolidating his base among the peasantry.
The Pradesh Congress (I) president and the Chief Minister Beant Singh, has adopted policy of wait and see in the wake of developments it Congress Working Committee
Brar, a known critic of Beant Singh, had the support of some members in the previous CWC.
A cross section of the people has decided to honor him here for his stand on Punjab issues.
