SAN FRANCISCO,CA: Gurcharan Singh Saidpur an AISSF activist was granted political asylum, after the asylum director determined that Gurcharan Singh had established well-founded fear of persecution if he returned to his homeland.
He claimed to have been inside the Golden Temple at the time of the attack by the Indian military in 1984. He was arrested and placed in police custody until September 5, 1984. He was arrested several times in the subsequent years and subjected to inhuman torture duc to his activities as a AISSF organizer. In the second case concerning Surjit Singh another AISSF actiyist, the Asylum director Faye Lothridge again approved his asylum requests after concluding that Sunjit Singh had well founded fears of prosecution by the Indian police. Sujit Singh established that he had been badly tortured and beaien up by the Indian police on several occasions starting March 1988. With these two cases, Attorney, Mohinder Singh who represented both applicants, has added two more victories to his successful career, these werehis32 and 33rd cases for grant of asylum to Sikhs.
