Ludhiana: An Indian army patrol party apprehended a police patrol party near Samrala extorting money from bus and car passengers last week.
According to F.I.R Ns 18 of March 28 at Samrala police station Major R.S. Sondhi stated that 2 naib-subedar of an army patrol under his charge reported that 2 police patrol party was engaged in stopping vehicles moving between Chandigarh and Ludhiana and was extorting money from them the police patrol party consisted of one head constable and three constables. They were in police uniforms and had a Maruti car for their movement.
The F.I.R. recorded that all four policemen were armed. They had 7.6mm automatic guns as well as Ak-47 rifles A police constable tried to run away but was apprehended. He had four bags which contained currency notes of Rs. 570 while another had rounds forAK-47
“All the four policemen were officially designated guards of a senior police officer.
It may be recalled that Indian forces in Punjab had not been issued AK-47 rifles.
The police registered a case under anti-corruption law against the four culprits while others with lesser charges are proceeded against under anti-terrorist law as well as under arms act Non-Indian news agency circulated the story either locally or to their international clients.
