Official sources quoting reports here on Tuesday said the convoy which was on its way to Dimapur from Medziphema was fired upon with automatic weapons by the underground guerillas who were waiting on the roadside near the Diphupar police station.
The police sub-inspector attached to the Diphupar police station was injured in the cross-firing that censured and was shot dead by jeep-borne ultras near the Dimapur civil hospital where he was being rushed for treatment.
The injured the colonel Ajit Singh who was leading the convoy and three soldiers were admitted to the Rangapahar military hospital.
There were no reports of any casually among the attackers. A massive combing operations has been Launched in the area the sources said.
