BATHINDA: The newly-marred Sikh girl Amandeep Kaur whose hair-raising story of dishonor torture and harassment at the hands of Indian security forces appeared in last week’s World Sikh News has been killed.
Unidentified gunmen believed to be Bathinda Superintendent of Police Kahlons private human raided the house of Kaus father Jaswant Singh at Kotha Pipliwala “on January 23-1992 and shot dead Amandeep. The news of the raid and the murder appeared in a section of Punjabi media also. Amandeep was the sister of a Sikh activist Harpinder Singh Goldy who is at present underground Goldy is hardly 18 and i fighting for Khalistan. Amandeep was picked up by the police along with +her father and her husband as they stepped out of the court of Sub-Registrar of Marriages here after getting their marriage registered. She was taken to several police stations in Bathinda district where she was dishonored tortured and harassed along with her father husband mother and sister. In the Phul police station the district police chief himself was present. He ordered the father and husband stripped naked in her presence. Later the S.S.P. ordered the husband to leave India with in “24 hours” or face death Sraa left India
The police had also ransacked Jaswant Singh’s house and had decamped with all the belongings. The girl went underground fearing more police aids and harassment. She approached the P.H.R.O. head office at Ludhiana where she had her statement recorded.
But the police played a game. It restored all the looted belongings to Jaswant Singh’s house and assured him that is daughter would not be harassed any longer. Taking the police word” at its face value the girl went to her father’s house only to be attacked by Kahlons “Black Cats” and be killed.
The P.H.R.O. representatives had given the girls statement alleging torture dishonor and harassment to the Canadian parliamentary team at Chandigarh Instead of expressing sympathy with the girl and bringing the matter to the notice of the Indian authorities the members of the team issued an unfortunate statement at Amritsar alleging that Sikh activists too were violating human rights. This kind of approach encouraged the Indian police to eliminate Amandeep Kaur.
