AMRITSAR: The police have decided to seal vulnerable towns against attacks. The DGP KPS Gill has instructed all SSPs in the state to identify sensitive towns in their areas and make contingency plans. A security umbrella would be provided to these towns.

The decision was taken at a high level meeting at Jalandhar on March 16. The measure of sealing towns was backed by intelligence officers. It was felt that the militants emboldened as they would make big strikes particularly in the Malwa belt. The BSF, CRPF and Punjab police already conduct joint patrolling in the border areas.

There are also reports that there is an intense power struggle among the militants to wrest control of the powerful Damdami Taksal. All groups want their protégé to head it in place of Baba Thakur Singh.
