ROPAR: Three “Black Cats” of Patiala police, in the garb of militants kidnapped two persons, Dr. Gurcharan Singh, a director of the Central Cooperation Bank and Sadhu Singh, sarpanch of village Hari pur of Ropar district, to extort money from them. They have been rescued by the Ropar police. According to Dr. Gurcharan Singh (80), three armed men wearing yellow patkas and Cholas came to his house in village Purkhali, about 15 kms from here, in a white Gypsy on Sept.5. They bundled the doctor in the jeep, at gun-point. Sadhu Singh, who was also in the jeep, was kidnapped in the same manner from his village. Both of them were blindfolded near Kurali and were kept in a private house on the outskirts of Patiala. Third degree methods were used to extort money from them. The kidnappers demanded Rs.8 lakhs for their release. On Sept.6, they were hung upside down from the roof and severely beaten. Dr. Gurcharan Singh, showed the marks of injuries to reporters here.

He said, on Sept.8, the same men kidnapped Bahadur Singh, a patwafi of village Tonsa. The officials of the patwar khana immediately informed the tehsildar about the kidnapping. The tehsildar took up the matter with the SSP, Sanjiv Gupta, who ordered nakas on various roads. The kidnappers were intercepted near village Arson.

On interrogation, it was revealed that the kidnappers were “Black Cats’ of the Patiala police, where Dr. Gurcharan Singh and Sadhu Singh were kept.

The SSP informed his counterpart in Patiala to verify the particulars of the kidnappers and sought the release of the two.
