AMRITSAR: The Amritsar police last week claimed to have foiled a plot to kill RSS leader BAL Thackeray, Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, and certain moderate Akali leaders by arresting an ISI-trained militant who had recently returned from Pakistan.
Senior Superintendent of Police Narinderpal Singh said that the militant had been identified as Gurjinder Singh all as Simon alias Bittu. He was arrested from Attari railway station last week. The SSP said that Gurjinder Singh had come to Attari railway station to pass on some message to his masters in Pakistan through a link person going to Lahore on the special train for World Cup final, however, the train was cancelled. On learning about this, the militant tried to ring up his associates, across the border, from a public call office. The SSP said that the police had received secret information about the activities of the militant and was following him.
