CHANDIGARH: Mr. Justice S.D. Bajaj of the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected today the plea for cancellation of anticipatory bail of Nayjot Singh Sidhu, a Test Cricketer who has been accused of committing the murder of Mr. Gumnam Singh at Patiala on December 27. 1988. The Judge also allowed Sidhu to go to the West Indies to participate in Test matches for which he has been selected by the Board of Control of Cricket in India, The arguments for and against the grant of anticipatory bail were heard in front of a packed courtroom. PATIALA: The Indian Test cricketer. Nayjot Singh Sidhu here today submitted in the court of the District and Session Judge a letter of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding his selection as a member of the Indian team to the West Indies:
With the submission of this certificate, through his counsel Mr. Vharan Das Verma, the ace Indian cricketer has fulfilled all three conditions hands down in the order of the same court on February 6 granting Permission to Nayjot Sidhu to leave India from February 26 to May 10. The court had directed Nayjot Sidhu to furnish personal bond and one surety to the tune of Rs 50,000 each to ensure his return to India after his expiring of tour to the West Indies and also to produce a certificate form the BCCI regarding his selection. While Nayjot submitted personal bond and surety bond on February6, the submis sion of the certificate was delayed since the BNCCV had not yet finalized the final 17 member Indian team to the West Indies. The team was announced on February 14 in Madras where a conditioning camp for 23 Indian probable was underway.
Navjot Singh Sidhu and his friend Rupinder Singh Sandhu were granted anticipatory bale by the District and Sessions Judge here on February 1 in a case under Section 304/34 of the IPC registered against them at the city kiotwali here on December 27 last year following the death of Gurnam Singh Ghalauri in a scuffle on The Mall here.
