NEW DELHI: H.C. Jatav Commandant General Home Guarts and director Civil defence who has been unauthorized absent from duty is likely to be suspended according to top Delhi Administration sources.
Me. Jatav is among the 72 Delhi Police officers indicted by the Kusum Lata Mital commission which investigated the police role in the November 1984 riots “The Government has been making frantic efforts to get in touch with him but in vain. Delhi Administration chief Secretary RK. Takkar said two charge-sheets were sent by registered post to his residence in Bapa Nagar and to his office premises. His residence however was found to be pad: locked and his whereabouts is unknown.
What lends urgency to the situation is that Mr. Jatav is due to retireonMasch31 1992 less than a week away. According to service rules if the charge sheet is not served on the officer before his retirement it will become invalid in cases where the charge is more than four years old in this instance it is already eight years old.
Now that there is no response from Mr. Jatav the administration would have to consider various options the Chief Secretary said. Top sources said suspension will be one option since if an officer is suspended retirement becomes annulled.
Jatavs charge sheet along with that of two other IPS officers was processed by the Home Minister on March 20. Failing to make contact with the officer Delhi Administration was asked to search for him. The later in turn enlisted the Delhi Polices services. But all efforts failed.
Jatav belongs to the 1959 IPS batch.
