NEW DELHI: All but one of the nine fulltime members of the Planning Commission resigned Monday following change in the government.
In their individual letters of resignation to the prime minister, who is also the commission’s chairman, they said they were resigning to enable him reconstitute the constitution as desired.
The members are Arun Ghosh. Vaidyanathan, Harswaroop Singh, Rajni Kothari, L.C Jain, Ela Bhatt and J D Sethi.
T.N. Seshan, former cabinet secretary who was made a member after the change in government last year, however, falls on a different footing as he has to be given an alternative assignment if the new government wants him out of the commission.
